Grilling is an art form, it’s a skill that is learned and acquired through practice. If you own a Cal Flame BBQ grill, then you will most likely know the following grilling must-knows to survive the summer season. If you are a new to the grilling world, then follow us this way to simple tips & tricks to get the most out of your grill:
1. Set up 2 grill zones — one for direct heat, and the other for indirect heat. Use the direct heat to sear meats and veggies, and move them to the cool side to allow the food to finish grilling without overcooking.
2. Leave the lid off for ingredients that cook quickly like shrimp and vegetables and put the lid on for longer-grilling items like poultry and steak.
3. Season burger meat liberally with salt, pepper and canola oil. Allow cheeses to melt completely by closing the lid for a delicious melted cheesy goodness.
4. If you don’t have time to marinate your meats, a dry rub is a quick way to add flavor to grilling. Keep a well stocked spice rack for the kitchen and the grill! Double points!
5. Keep vegetables whole or in larger sections so they’re easier to manage on the grill and keeps them from falling through the grates. For smaller items, use water-soaked wooden skewers it makes transferring and flipping easier and quicker.
6. Do not open and touch the food too much. Let the grill do it’s job and let is stand a bit before flipping. If you check on the food and it’s sticking a little, it’s not done cooking. Turn the food only once and let the fire be your guide.

First off, the beer! A Cal Flame Kegorator neatly stores a full-sized keg inside your island. Best of all, the insulated kegorator keeps the keg nice and cool, all you have to do is pour. Want something a little more festive? Make sure to add a few drops of green food coloring to your pint glass before pouring.
What’s on the menu? Prepare some traditional Irish food for the big cook out.
Corned Beef Hash: Prepare the grill for indirect cooking over medium heat (350° to 450°F). Arrange the celery, carrot, onion, and garlic in a 9-by-13-inch heavy-duty foil pan. Place the corned beef on top of the vegetables. Sprinkle the contents of the spice packet over the corned beef and rub into the surface of the meat.
Shamrock Salad: Remove woody ends from asparagus and cut into equal lengths. Cook peas and asparagus in boiling salted water for around 2 minutes or until just tender but still crisp. In recent years, more and more people are becoming aware of the Eco-Friendly Movement. When it comes to grilling, we can choose to grill a little greener to reduce and limit the permanent damage being done to Mother Earth. Between choosing products that reduce the use of natural resources, to being a little smarter when cleaning our grills, it’s really up to us to make a difference.
Though there doesn’t seem to be an obvious eco-friendly choice when it comes to what fuels your grill, there are still a few things you can do to lessen the environmental impact of your weekend barbecue.
Follow these simple tips from ChowHound.com on how to grill and be environmentally friendly.
Use Nontoxic Cleaners
It’s best to clean your grill with a heavy-duty grill brush and some elbow grease, but if you’re going to use a spray-on cleaner, go for one that’s nontoxic.
Buy Sustainable Charcoal
If you’re buying lump charcoal, look for brands like Wicked Good, Nature’s Own Chunk Charwood, and the Original Charcoal Company, which are made from sustainably harvested wood. Lazzari also produces a 100 percent mesquite lump charcoal made from prunings, dead and fallen wood, and selectively harvested wood.
If you opt for briquettes, avoid instant-light varieties—they’re soaked in petroleum products—and conventional briquettes that use fillers like coal dust and petroleum binders.
Grill Good Food
What’s on top of your grate is just as important as what’s underneath it. Try to use seasonal, local, and organic produce and meats.
Put Down the Lighter Fluid!
There’s no need to use toxic lighter fluid to ignite charcoal when you can use a chimney starter. They’re simple: Stuff some old newspaper in the bottom, fill the top with charcoal, and light the paper. At around $10 to $15, they’re also cheap. Plus, your food won’t have any off flavors from unburned lighter fluid residue. You can also make one out of an old coffee can by removing both ends, using a church key bottle opener to cut holes around the bottom rim, placing the chimney on top of your grill, and proceeding with the newspaper, charcoal, and ignition.
